# Support Links

{% hint style="info" %}
**Why is this important?**

Support links help users discover the information they need to understand, use and engage with your resource. They may include documentation, user manuals, training materials, helpdesks, FAQs, community forums and other resources that support both new and experienced users. Providing these links makes it easier for researchers to find authoritative guidance, learn how to use your resource effectively and obtain help when needed.

**FAIR:** Supports **Accessibility** and **Reusability** by providing information that helps users access, understand and use your resource appropriately. Documentation, training and support resources also strengthen transparency and encourage consistent use within the research community.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="success" %}
Support links are **recommended** for all FAIRsharing records.

*Please also see the general information regarding our* [*minimal curation requirements*](/fairsharing/record-sections-and-fields/how-to-update-a-record.md#minimal-curation-requirements)*.*
{% endhint %}

**Support links provide information about the various types of documentation, training and support available for your resource.**

Choose the appropriate support type from the drop-down menu. If you are unsure of which support type to use for a particular type of documentation, please [get in touch](mailto:contact@fairsharing.org).

Support link types:

* Help documentation
* Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
* Training documentation
* TeSS links to training materials: note that this will connect with [TeSS](https://tess.elixir-europe.org/) to help you integrate a cross reference to a TeSS-registered training material directly into your FAIRsharing record.
* Wikipedia
* Blog/news
* Github: for associated Github repositories
* Support email: for when there is a distinct support email that is not required as the primary [contact email address](/fairsharing/record-sections-and-fields/general-information/contact-information.md).
* Mailing list
* Forum
* Twitter
* Facebook
* Video
* Other

Each support item has three fields: Type, Link, and Name:

* The **Type** is a drop-down menu that allows you to choose the type of support you are describing.
* The **Link** field must contain a URL in all cases except the email and twitter types, which require an email address and twitter handle starting with “@”, respectively.
* The **Name** field is a short, free-text description of the type of document you are providing. We strongly recommend that you provide this value, as it makes your record easier to read for others.
