Attribution for you

At FAIRsharing, we try to showcase the role of the research community generally, and maintainers more specifically. There are a couple of ways that maintainers are credited in FAIRsharing, and here's where you can learn a little more about attribution at FAIRsharing. Please let us know if you can have any ideas about additional ways we can shine a light on your efforts updating and creating records with us.
Each record you own has the name of your user account, as well as any other accounts that also maintain that record. Each time someone views that record, your ownership is prominently displayed in the General Information section at the top of the page.
When you become a maintainer with us, the Maintained Records section of your user profile lists those records that you own. Here's an example from one of our team:
If you are an active maintainer in any calendar year (see What is an 'active' maintainer? below), we will also add an Award with this status in December of that year. Each year you update your record, you will receive an additional award.
To get the attribution for your edits pushed to your ORCID account, you must have the feature enabled and have made at least one of your edits in that calendar year via your ORCID-linked account.
We are a trusted partner with ORCID, and as such we are able to push your Maintainer Role to your ORCID profile as a Works item under the section "Annotation". For each year that you continue as a maintainer and update your record with us, you will receive an additional work item on your ORCID profile.
All you need to do in order for this feature to be automatically applied to your ORCID profile is to be an active maintainer for that calendar year (see What is an 'active' maintainer? below) and to have this feature enabled within your profile.
You can check and change the status of this feature in your settings, enabling or disabling it by editing your user profile with us.
Organisational- and project-level accounts (see Who? under Claiming a Record) in FAIRsharing are linked to group emails and not individuals. We strongly recommend that one of the maintaining accounts in a FAIRsharing record is of this type to provide continuity of ownership should individuals change role or job.
However, by definition organisational and project-level accounts don't generally have ORCIDs. If you would like to have your role as a maintainer attributed to your ORCID each year but only currently have an organisational account linked to your record, then create a new individual account with us via the ORCID authentication method. Follow the steps above under Your ORCID profile and then claim your record with this account.
Some of our attribution activities only apply to you if you are 'active' with us in any given calendar year. To fit our definition of active, you must:
link your ORCID account to your FAIRsharing account by enabling third-party authentication by ORCID
update and save your record(s) with us by the end November of that calendar year. We ask that each maintainer visit and update their record with us once per year, at a minimum. If you're not sure how to review your record, please see our helpful hints around what's most important when editing a record. We consider your record reviewed, and push your attribution to your FAIRsharing user profile and your ORCID profile (see the sections above), if you edit and save your record with us at least once during any calendar year.
