# Abbreviation

**Why is this important?**

Many resources are known by both their full name and an abbreviation. Recording both improves discovery and reduces ambiguity when researchers search for your resource.

**FAIR:** Supports **Findability** by improving the discoverability of your resource using commonly recognised names and abbreviations.

The abbreviation is **optional** for all FAIRsharing records.
